IONA is the composable commerce consultancy. IONA helps brands design, build and run digital commerce on modular, best-of-breed architecture rather than a single monolithic platform.

Founded in Finland in 2016 and now working across the Nordics and the UK, IONA covers the full lifecycle: strategy and architecture, experience design, engineering and continuous optimisation. Clients include Marimekko, Kemppi, Novita, Lappset, Alamy and HMD Global, across industries such as retail, manufacturing and B2B.

IONA's work follows one cycle. The team studies the commercial goal and sets the roadmap, specifies the solution concept, ships the platform, then scales it through measurement and iteration. IONA composes systems from services that each do one job well: commercetools for the commerce engine, Contentful or Sanity for content, Bluestone PIM or Akeneo for product data, Constructor for product discovery, Omnium for order management, Vercel for the front end. The components are always selected according to client needs. The principle holds that each capability stays independent, API-first and replaceable without a full rebuild.

IONA is a MACH Certified Global System Integrator, and one of a small number of certified integrators headquartered in Northern Europe. IONA joined the Alliance because its delivery model already rested on the four MACH principles of microservices, API-first integration, cloud-native SaaS and headless front ends. IONA holds a commercetools Platinum partnership and delivers live implementations alongside other MACH vendors, including Contentful, Akeneo, Bluestone PIM, Constructor, Omnium and Vercel. Regionally, IONA hosts Composable Commerce Nordics, a flagship event for composable commerce leaders, and takes part in MACH events internationally.

Mission:

IONA's purpose is to give commerce leaders architecture that grows with their business. Composable decouples different ecommerce capabilities, which shrinks the failure radius of a change and shortens the path from decision to release.

Recent innovations:

Over the past eighteen months, IONA has done three things that changed how it delivers:

IONA launched a Growth and data practice that builds segmentation, personalisation and measurement into the architecture at design time rather than bolting them on afterwards, so commercial teams act on customer data instead of waiting on reports.

IONA moved into agentic commerce delivery, which it defines as the use of AI agents to plan and execute commerce tasks across systems, within guardrails, with auditability and rollback. Its attention there is on the detail that makes it safe to run: the specific job the agent does, the permissions and policies around it, the audit trail and what happens when it is wrong.

IONA delivered a run of composable platforms across retail, manufacturing and B2B, several of them being the client's first move off a monolith.

Where IONA is heading:

Over the next twelve to eighteen months, IONA is taking agentic commerce from pilot into production, running agents against continuous commerce operations in client stacks under human oversight.

IONA is deepening its London presence to take on larger and more integrated enterprise programmes across the Nordics and the UK.

IONA is concentrating on composable for B2B and manufacturers, where complex catalogues, contract pricing and channel logic gain the most from decoupling.

And IONA is pushing further into data and personalisation, so that segmentation maps to a commercial goal and can be measured against it.
