Product Information Managment (PIM)

An AI future for products and digital asset data

At its heart, e-commerce is based on the digital representation of a product that is then used as the core for an online transaction that moves back into the physical world. As such, the combination of PIM (Product Information Management) and DAM (Digital Asset Management), into an intelligent workflow is the workhorse of the sector.

Scalability across vast numbers of SKUs, responsiveness to changes in data feeds and channels, and maintaining highly accurate, centralised but accessible ‘golden records’ for product information, are at the core of this challenge.

Pimberly combines PIM and DAM to improve how businesses manage product data, combining access to over one billion products in its data bank, and the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to automate processes such as generating product specifications, at speed.

With such a keen focus on e-commerce, and a core belief that online will become the dominant nexus of consumers and products, Pimberly joined the MACH Alliance in May 2023. Its membership was driven by a desire to accelerate the evolution towards a composable future that enables consumers to choose their preferred retailer, payment, and delivery methods; anywhere, any time and via any device.

Pimberly has brought keen innovation to the community. CopyAI, is a proprietary software that creates AI generated, readable and original product descriptions based on the attributes already stored. Marketers are freed from manually writing hundreds of individual product descriptions and can focus on driving revenue. Elsewhere, with more consumers looking for 3D images of the products they wish to purchase, Pimberly’s DAM can ingest and convert digital twins.

This innovation is combined with a focus on intuitive user experience: user friendly, drag and drop, no-code workflows enable non-technical users to embrace Pimberly. The main driver for this ease of use has been the customer feedback that has directed 90% of the Pimberly roadmap.

Looking to the future, Pimberly will be able to ingest large catalogues of product data from multiple vendors – a feature aimed specifically at large retailers, wholesalers, and distributors. Elsewhere, using AI, Pimberly will auto-assign attributes into a uniform product database and use AI image recognition to auto-generate taxonomies, whilst CopyAI will dynamically adjust product descriptions and features to optimize for SEO in real-time.
