Let’s start with a shocking number: twenty-seven. That number isn’t the year-over-year salary increase for women in tech. It’s not the growth rate for women stepping into executive roles, either. 27 percent is the total distribution of tech-related jobs held by women. Full stop.
Regardless of the fact that diverse teams are proven to outperform at all levels, women and girls remain underrepresented in the tech industry (and beyond). The Women in MACH mentorship program aims to shatter the silicon ceiling and increase equity for women in tech through mentorship, skill-building, networking, and professional development opportunities. Facilitated by the MACH Alliance, our mission is to build a supportive community for women in all stages of their career, giving them the space to learn from and inspire each other.
Women face unique challenges in the workplace. Pay disparity, unconscious gender and racial biases, and sexual harassment make it more difficult for women to achieve security, let alone advancement in their careers. Women – and especially women of color – are less likely to be promoted and less likely to receive a salary increase than men, despite asking for raises at an equal rate. Yet, companies who embrace diversity have seen cash flow that is two-and-a-half times greater than those with less diversity, and companies with diverse management teams brought in 19% higher revenue. Women still make up less than a third of the tech workforce. Building a supportive community of tech women professionals is more important than ever to drive lasting change for the better. The Women in MACH mentorship program will include:
The initial response has been nothing short of amazing. Even before the official Launch at MACH TWO, we were able to confirm 20 high-profile mentors, including esteemed professionals in the tech space like Casper Rasmussen, Global SVP of Technology at Valtech; Kelly Larson, Senior Director Technology Strategy at Publicis Sapient; Dom Selvon, CTO at Apply Digital; Michelle Adams, Chief Revenue Officer at Algolia; and Neta Agmon, VP of Product Management at Cloudinary, to only name a few. We worked incredibly hard to arrive at a 50/50 ratio for male and female mentors, and we will continue to push for it. Anything is possible if you’re willing to do what it takes. We strongly believe in #maleallies, and we truly need the tide to raise all boats if we want to create lasting change.
Together, we can shatter the silicon ceiling and push to increase equity for women in tech.
Together, we can crush that 27% statistic.
