I am honored to join the new Board of Expert Advisors for the MACH Alliance. The timing for this opportunity is particularly exciting.
Throughout my career as a Gartner Fellow and Distinguished Analyst, I've focused on the architecture of complex business systems, from enterprise transaction processing to distributed "open systems," cloud computing, and, most recently, multi-agentic composable systems. The MACH Alliance has been a consistent champion of best practices in this space. Over the past five years, the Alliance has built an impressive momentum, growing to over 100 technology provider members and numerous end-user ambassadors. With MACH brand gaining recognition, MACH certification became a mark of credibility for technology products and services, bringing to the Alliance new members, ranging from ambitious startups to enterprise hyperscalers.
The road ahead is both exciting and hazardous. Organizations must move beyond their current investments and cultural mindsets into a new world of continuously adaptive and increasingly autonomous digital platforms. The core principles of MACH architecture — centered on composability — had helped improve its user’s readiness for change. But now it must evolve to support a larger scale of operations, a broader scope of business outcomes, and deeper, native support for AI and agentic business operations. The enhanced disciplines of governance, collaboration, accountability, interoperability and efficiency need to find their way into the common MACH experience.
The world needs an organizing force to materialize the opportunities of AI and agentic computing. An unbiased, non-profit alliance of business and technology leaders, like the MACH Alliance, is the ideal candidate to lead this charge. By grounding its work in the real-world practices of its members, the Alliance can cut through the industry hype and serve the needs of business communities across industries. Collectively, the members of the Alliance can scale the MACH model to become the proverbial tide to help lift all industry boats.
I look forward to working with the Alliance’s leadership, its members, and their users, as we navigate this essential journey of discovery and growth together.
